The graffiti information and photos are shared with the SMASH team - an anti-gang unit - and other law enforcement agencies. The Total Automation Graffiti Removal System - or TAGRS - is a program shared by both agencies and used to document cases by recording the location, application method and the cost to clean it up. Town Code Enforcement and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department have partnered in tracking graffiti throughout Apple Valley. “The program eliminates graffiti blight, helps residents feel safer by having a clean neighborhood and maintains property values.” “With this program, graffiti is removed quickly using matching paint or graffiti removal techniques, ensuring there is no evidence graffiti was ever present. “The town’s free paint match graffiti removal program is vital to the community,” Code Enforcement Manager Jim Andersen said. The reduction was attributed partly to an aggressive program of eradication that begins with Code Enforcement officers proactively opening 86 percent of recent cases prior to receiving a complaint. While dropping from 2,914 cases to 1,095 cases in those years, the trend continued last year. Through aggressive enforcement and an automated tracking system, the town saw a 62 percent reduction in graffiti from 2011 through 2013, town officials say. APPLE VALLEY - Graffiti abatement continues to improve in town, with 1,035 total cases logged by the end of 2014, and property owners benefit from a free removal program.
